Fans Mayhem in Addis Ababa Stadium as Adama Ketema Hold Kidus Giorgis

Visitors Adama Ketema put up a superb performance to hold defending champions Kidus Giorgis in topflight league week 14 rescheduled encounter in Addis Ababa Stadium. The game between Kidus Giorgis and Adama Ketema ended with scenes of disturbance as the home side fans mayhem forced the tie to be aborted for 28 minutes.

Canaan Markneh’s opener was cancelled out by Abubakher Sanni as Kidus Giorgis saved blushes. Adama Ketema dominated in goal attempts he proceedings while the reigning champions struggled in their home game. It was the away side who triggered the first attempt on goal when Canaan, who had been outstanding throughout the match, intercepted a pass from Kidus Giorgis’s midfielder Gadissa Mebrate and dribble past two of his markers to unleash a powerful shot the rattled post 9 minutes into the game. Two minutes later Gadissa should have handed the Horsemen the lead but he unsuccessfully tried to lob Adama’s Congolese keeper Jacob Penze.

Canaan broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when he fire past Robert Odongkara. Canaan played a one two with Dawa Hotessa before he beat Salahdin Bragicho to strike from inside the box. The visitors should have doubled their slander lead but Bereket Desta spurred the opportunity in the 37th minute.

Following the resumption Adama Ketema had chances through a quick counter attacks that could have put the game to bed. However, poor decision making let them down not to extended their lead. Abubakher restored parity four minutes before time when he struck a delivery from second half substitute Behailu Assefa. A minute later match referee Yirgalem Woldegiorgis ordered the game to be aborted when Kidus Giorgis fans threw objects Adama’s winger Bereket who was about to take a corner kick around the Daf Track section of the Addis Ababa Stadium.

The game was halted for 28 minutes following crowd trouble which led to clashes between the two opposite fans at Katanga and Mismar Tera sections of the stadia. Kidus Giorgis’s holding midfielder Mulualem Mesfin was struck by an object thrown from his own club fan whilst injured Kidus Giorgis and Adama Ketema fans emerged from the sections to get first aid treatment.

The game ended in a one all draw as both side missed on a chance to close the gap on league leaders Dedebit. Adama Ketema are third with 23 points from 15 games while Kidus Giorgis are fourth with 22 points from 13 games.
