EthPL Review | Game Week Two of the 2019/20 season

Ethiopian premier league week two matches were played across the nation from Saturday till mid-week as Fasil Kenema run riot aginst Dire Dawa. meanwhile Wolwalo continued on their perfect start as Sidama Bunna, Bahirdar, Kidus Giorgis, Adama all secured their first win of the campaign.

On Saturday 5 games were held, as five stars Fasil trashed Diredawa Ketema at the Atse Fasiledes Stadium. Mujib Qassim snatched the first hat-trick of the brand new Ethiopian premier league meanwhile Shemeket Guggesa also scored a brace.

The matches between Adama and Wolkite and also between Wolawalo and Wolita Dicha all ended in slender win for the home sides. Dawa Hottesa was on target to hand Ashenafi Bekele’s men their first victory of the campaign after playing out a goalless draw last week against Fasil Ketema. On the other hand Semere Haftaey and Carlos Damtew maintain Wolwalo’s perfect start with two wins from two.

The highly anticipated match between Bahirdar Ketema and regning champions Mekelle 70 Enderta was an exciting game, the “Wave of Tana” came out victorious from the 5 goals thriller at the Bahirdar international stadium. Malian imports Adama Sissoko and Mamadou Sidibe along Fitsum Alemu were on target for Bahir Dar as Amanuel G/Micheal and Seyoum Tesfaye reduced the deficit for the visitors.

On the other match played on Saturday Hadiya Hossana and Hawassa Ketema played a one all draw, goals late in the second half from Henock Arficho and Alelige Azene canceled each other as both sides shared solitary point.

Meanwhile on Sunday Sidama Bunna hammered Sehul Shire 4-1 at the Hawassa Stadium, Addis Gidey’s brace, goals from Yigezu Bogale and Habtamu Gezahegn returned Sidama to winning ways after they suffered an opening weekend loose against Wolita Dicha. The Ivorian man on form Diddier Lebri scored the conciliation goal for Shire.


Fixtures previously scheduled for the weekends at the Addis Ababa Stadium were rescheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday due to a festivity to be held at the venue on Monday. So on Tuesday Kidus Giorgis hosted Sebeta and earned a hard fought three points in the evenly contested encounter but Kidus Giorgis did just enough to escape Sebeta Ketema 1–0 courtesy to Abel yalew’s second half strike. On the final schedule of the game week,  Ethiopia Bunna and Jimma Aba Jiffar played a goalless draw on Wednesday.

Early days in the Ethiopian Premier league but Wolwalo is leading the chart with 6 points followed by Fasil, Bahir Dar, Adama and Hawassa meanwhile Diredawa who lost twice in the opening weekends are residing the tail of the table followed by Sebeta and Wolkite.
