The Ethiopian League Cup quarter final games were played out today in Addis Ababa as Ethiopia Nigd Bank dumped out Sidama Bunna whilst Adama Ketema came out victorious against Ethiopia Bunna on penalty shootout.
Ethiopia Nigd Bank progressed to the 2015/16 season League Cup semifinal on the expense of Yirgalem based club Sidama Bunna. Nigd Bank struck twice to take a 2-0 lead before half time. Ghanaian midfielder Gabriel Ahmed opened the scoring in the 29th minute when he headed home a Biniam Belay’s delivery. The youngster Biniam doubled the lead at the closing stage of the interval with a clinical finish inside the area. Haitian Saurel Olurish struck after the recess with a well taken free kick to pull one back. Nigerian striker Philip Dauzi was shown a second yellow in the 76th minute leaving Bank to play with 10 men but Sidama failed to find any more goals as they eliminated from the League Cup at the quarter finals.
Ethiopia Bunna bow out of the League Cup after suffering a loss to Adama Ketema. The Addis outfit were in firm control of the game. However, they did not make the most of their dominance fruitful. Elias Mamo saw his goal bound long range effort hitting the upright while Yonatan Kebede failed to convert a second half penalty for Adama as he skied it over the cross bar. Eventually, Adama triumphed over Bunna 4-2 on penalties. Cameroonian Yabeun William and Wendifraw Getahun missed their respective spot kicks.
The boisterous Ethiopia Bunna fans flaunted their disapproval of the club’s general manager Mr. Gezaghen as they demand the manager to step down from office.
Adama and Nigd Bank joined holders Mekelakeya in the semifinal. Mekelakeya reached the semifinal of the League Cup after beating Dedebit with Baye Gezaghen’s last gasp goal.
