CAFCL : Kidus Gorgis play out 2-2 draw with holders TP Mazembe

Kidus Giorgis holds reigning champions TP Mazembe to a 2-2 draw in the first round of Orange CAF Champions League in front of a packed stadium in Bahirdar.

Kidus Giorgis were the dominant force in the opening 30 minutes as they mount pressure against the visitors. The Horsemen took a surprising lead just 11 minutes into the game through winger Behailu Assefa whose long range effort found the back of the net after a run.

The Congolese side managed to equalize at blink of half time through Ghanaian import Daniel Nii Adjei. Jonathan Bolingi set up Adjei who fire past Odongkara to restore parity. The away goal seemingly gave Mazembe a much needed motivation as they struck again after the second half kicked off. Center back Asechalew Tamene headed into his own net from Malian striker Adama Traore’s cross to silence the home crowd.

Forward Adane Girma put Giorgis on level matters with a slight flick in the 59th minute. Kidus Giorgis came close in many occasions to get a goal but their effort was futile. Adane set up Behailu a nice through ball but the later shots wide from close range in the 74th minute. Ivorian Roger Assale saw his goal bound effort denied by the bravery of Ugandan goalie Robert Odongkara at the other end.
