Adama Ketema, Dedebit win as Sidama Bunna Hold Leaders Kidus Giorgis

In round 6 of the Ethiopian Premier League table toppers Kidus Giorgis settled for a barren draw against Sidama Bunna while Dedebit and Adama Ketema won their respective tie to close the gap with the record Ethiopian champions. Ethiopia Bunna came out with a point after their 1-1 draw with Wolaitta Dicha in Sodo.

Sidama Bunna displayed a superb second half performance but come short of beating Addis giants Kidus Giorgis. The duel in Yirgalem ended 0-0. The Horsemen had three open goal scoring opportunities in space of the opening 10 minutes where Salahdin Said squandered. The homers hit the upright twice through the on fire Addis Gidey and ex Kidus Giorgis striker Bereket Addisu in the first interval. The draw left Kidus Giorgis still at the top with 11 points.

Adama Ketema hosted Woldia SC in Adama Abebe Bikila as Sisay Toli’s 6th minute strike earned Adama the maximum points. The win took Adama third with 11 points, same as leaders Kidus Giorgis.

10 man Dedebit swept aside the struggling Ethio-Electric 2-0. Center back Ayanlem Haile was dismissed in the 12th minute following a two legged tackle on Electric’s left back Alemneh Girma. Dedebit took the lead in the 59th minute as Getaneh Kebede’s long range free kick was saved by Ghanaian custodian Soulimana Aboubakheri but Asrat Megressa scored on the rebound from close range. Five minutes later Getaneh Kebede struck his sixth goal of the season after capitalizing on Awet Gebremikael’s howler. Dedebit are second with 11 points but inferior in goal difference to Kidus Giorgis.

Wolaitta Dicha and Ethiopia Bunna have to settle for a point each after their 1-1 draw in Sodo. The game had a large fans turnout rate but failed to live up to the expectations. Ethiopia Bunna had an early goal but the match official ruled out the goal. The Addis outfit filed a complaint over the cancelation of the goal. Dicha took the lead through Bezabeh Melyo before Abdulkerim Mohammed headed home from Elias Mamo’s cross the level the score.

Ethiopia Nigd Bank are the surprising winners of week 6 as they humbled Dire Dawa Ketema 2-0 away. Goals from Tadios Welde and Fikreysus Teklebirhan handed the Bankers a precious three points.

ArbaMinch Ketema’s surge at home continued on Sunday as they came from behind to defeat Addis Ababa Ketema 3-1. Fikadu Alemu gave the capital side the lead five minutes after recess. The Crocodiles hit back three minutes after the hour mark through Gebremikael Yacob. Amele Milkias completed a brace in the 73rd and 81st minutes as he put the game to bed.

Fasil Ketema and Hawassa Ketema shared spoils in Gondar in front of a packed Fasiledes Stadium. The Emperors were ahead 13 minutes after kickoff when  Hawassa’s new captain Desta Yohannis scored an own goal. Haimanot Worku equalized in the 26th minute.

A dominant Jimma Aba Bunna lost to Mekelakeya in Addis Ababa. Tewodros Bekele scored the lone goal 12 minutes before time.
