Meselu Abera Lifts Ethiopia Over Kenya

The Ethiopian women side have registered their second win of the Cecafa Women Cup game following a 1-0 triumph over Kenya. Lucys are now on pole position to win the regional women tournament for the first time in their history.

Lucy beat the 2016 Cecafa Women Cup runner ups Harambe Startles in a game played out at State Kigali. Ethiopia came to this encounter following a 3-0 drubbing of hosts Rwanda in their second outing. Center back Meselu Abera struck the winner for Lucy at the half hour mark through a well taken free kick.

Ethiopia ended Kenya’s hope for winning title. Hosts Rwanda hold Uganda to a two all draw meaning the Crested Cranes tops the standing with 7 points, Lucy are second with 6.

Ethiopia will play Tanzania on the final game and a draw or win against the defending champions will hand coach Selam Zereaye and her charges their first ever Cecafa Women Cup title.
