Kidus Giorgis, Adama and Dire Dawa Emerged Victorious on Week 2

Five round 2 fixtures of the Ethiopian Premier League played out on Sunday with Kidus Giorgis as Adama Ketema continued on their wining form. Dire Dawa tested victory at home against Ethio-Electric. Premier League rookies Addis Ababa Ketema and Jimma Aba Bunna settled for a barren draw while newcomers Woldia held ArbaMinch Ketema to a goalless stalemate.

Addis Ababa Ketema and Jimma Aba Bunna have to settle for a point each after their draw in Addis Ababa. The capital city club couldn’t build on their first week success. Fewer attempts on the goal were recorded throughout the tie with Ame Mohammed having the best chance of the game in which the ex-Junior Walias forward squandered before the first interval. The two newcomers are still unbeaten and have not conceded a single goal yet.

Dire Dawa Ketema came from behind to sweep Ethio-Electric aside 2-1 in Dire Dawa. The vistitors took an early lead through Fitsum GebereMariam. Ermias Belete, who previously piled his trade in Yemeni League and Ethiopia Bunna, leveled matters for the Easterner a minute from the break. Yared Tadesse scored the winner in the 63rd minute as he sublimely bagged an overhead kick goal. Yared joined Dire Dawa from cross city club National Cement in the summer transfer window. Biruk Ayele of Electric and Dire Dawa defender Tesafye Dibaba were sent off in the game because of a pitch brawl.

Adama Ketema’s home surge continued on Sunday with a resounding 2-0 victory over Sidama Bunna. Adama’s boss Ashenafi Bekele experimented on center back Mujib Kassim when he fielded the former Hawassa Ketema player as a forward. That came in handy and Mujib opened the scoring in the 69th minute. Michael George sealed the win in the dying moments of the game as Adama collects maximum points from two league games.

Red hot Kidus Giorgis were too good to handle for Dedebit on the week’s biggest league duel in Addis Ababa. First half goals from Menetesnote Adane and Adane Girma handed the Horsemen the win. Menetesnote headed home from close range in the 23rd minute for the tie’s first goal. Veteran striker Adane scored the second through a header at stroke of half time. Dedebit strikers Dawit Fikadu, Getaneh Kebede and Abel Yalew did virtually little to turn the result around in the second interval.

Elsewhere, ArbaMinch Ketema and Woldia settled for a goalless stalemate in ArbaMinch. Kidus Giorgis and Adama Ketema are on the summit of the log table with 6 points whilst Fasil Ketema and Hawassa Ketema are bottom. Fasil Ketema’s home game against Wolaitta Dicha postponed due to security concerns in Gondar likewise Ethiopia Nigd Bank and Hawassa Ketema’s duel pushed forward ater the demise of goalie Kibreab Dawit because of a tragic accident.
