*  Five players agreed to join league champions Mekelle 70 Enderta

2018/19 Ethiopian Premier League champions Mekelle 70 Enderta, who are preparing to represent Ethiopia in the CAF Champions League, have agreed to land five new players to boost their squad, which lacked depth last season.

The youngster goalie Tsion Mered who was part of the Ethiopian U-20 national team and Alelegn Azene have decided to switch to Mekelle from Ethiopian Higher League side- Arbaminch Ketema. While last season’s league top earner, Ghanian international Alhassan Kalusha, agreed to join the champions after his contract with Ethiopia Bunna was terminated a  month ago.

The pacey winger Ephrem Ashamo and the versatile full-back Tafesse Serka also joined the Northern Ethiopia club from Wolwalo A/U and Mekelakeya respectively.

Mekelle 70 Enderta have returned to pre-season training yesterday after 16 days break from their last competitive game. They will travel to Malabo to face the reigning Equatorial Guniea Champions Cano Sports Academy in the CAF champions league preliminary round first leg in 10 days.

*Dire Dawa Ketema renewed their contract with Anteneh Tesfaye and Samson Assefa

Eastern Ethiopia Premier League representative Dire Dawa appointed Simon Abay last week. Simon was working as interim head coach for the most part of last season and is now confirmed to continue as the new head coach for the coming season. In addition, the club has confirmed that they extended the contracts of club captain Samson Assefa and center back Antneh Tesfaye for another year.

Antneh Tesfaye joined the Eastern Ethiopia side two seasons ago from Sidama Bunna and has since been an integral part of the club. His omission from the current Chan 2020 Ethiopia national team was a surprise to many. Meanwhile; Samson Assefa, who is the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, has renewed his contract for another year at his hometown.

The club’s best performer of last season Remedan Nasser, who has been recently called up for the Ethiopia national team is also on the verge of extending his contract.

* Ethiopia Bunna released five players

Ethiopia Bunna who is set to officially announce Kassaye Aragie as their new trainer in the coming days have released five players from their roster: Wondosen Ashenafi, Wondiyfraw Getahun, Thomas Semeretu, Krizistom Nitambi, and Samson Tilahun.

It is highly speculated that the club will no longer have foreigners wearing the Black and Yellow jersey and believed to be recruiting new players from the Ethiopian Higher League.
