Sidama Bunna fail to make ground on leaders Kidus Giorgis after a 1 all draw against Ethiopia Nigd Bank. Mekelakeya cruised past Dire Dawa Ketema 1-0 in earlier kick off.
Sidama Bunna’s title hope is in limbo as they were held by relegation threatened Ethiopia Nigd Bank in Addis Ababa. Mulualem Mesfin headed home a Fitsum Teferi’s free kick as they Yirgalem based club took the lead in the 19th minute. With a goal down the Bankers piled on the pressure to get back to the tie whilst Sidama Bunna opted to protect their slander lead. Sidama’s Girum Assefa was penalized for a hand ball in the 69th minute; however second half substitute Peter Nuwadke squandered the spot kick. Ghanaian midfielder Gabriel Ahmed put Nigd Bank on level terms two minutes before time as the Bankers salvage a point at home. Gabriel has also managed to score a league goal on week 26 against Adama Ketema. The result leaves Sidama Bunna second and two points behind table toppers Kidus Giorgis, who have two games in hand. Ethiopia Nigd Bank remain second from bottom with 25 points.
Baye Gezaghen’s solitary goal was enough to secure Mekelakeya a narrow win over a struggling Dire Dawa Ketema. The Easterner were superior in ball possession but were poor in attacking proficiency. Baye scored the lone goal in the 39th minute. It’s his first league goal after returning from a long-term injury. The result leaves Mekelakeya 7th with 35 points while Dire Dawa Ketema slipped to the bottom 3 after back to back league defeats with 28 points.
