Ethiopia Bunna wins the Addis Ababa City Cup

Ethiopia Bunna are the champions of the Addis Ababa City Cup after beating Bahir Dar Ketema 4-1.

The Addis Abeba City Cup came to a close on Saturday with two games taking place at Addis Abeba stadium. The first game was a third place playoff between Mekelakeya and Jimma Aba Jifar. The regular playing time ended 2-2.

Yitajeb Gebremariam and Dawit Mamo netted for Mekelakeya while Sidibe grabbed a brace for Jimma Aba Jifar. The teams went  to penalty shootouts and Jimma Aba Jifar won 4-3 to secure third place.

The Final between Ethiopia Bunna and Bahir Dar Ketema started off evenly with both sides seeing a fair share of the ball. But It was Ethiopia Bunna who managed to find the back of the net through summer signing Alhassen Kalusha.

Bunna dominated after the goal. Samson Tilahun and Abubeker Nesru converted from the spot to take the game beyond Bahir Dar. The sides went into half time with 3-0 on the scoreboard.

After the break, Bahir Dar Kenema tried to get back into the game by pushing more bodies forward. That, however, meant that they left gaps in behind which allowed Ethiopia Bunna to counter.

In the 74th minute Endale Debalke capitalized on a mix up in the Bunna defense to pull a goal back for ‘The waves of Tana’ but it was nothing more than a consolation. Abubker Nesru scored the fourth to ensure his side starts the season with a trophy.
