Tewodros Bekele Helps Mekelakeya Pip Hadiya Hossana

Ethiopia Nigd Bank and Wolaitta Dicha played out a fairly disappointing stalemate when the league resumed today at Addis Ababa Stadium. Mekelakeya emerged 2-1 winners against the relegated Hadiya Hossana.

It was not a crunch duel when Nigd Bank hosted Wolaitta Dicha, though ultimately the result made no difference for either side in the log table. In the tie that ended in a goal less draw few goal attempts were recorded leaving Dicha custodian Wendesen Ashenafi to keep a clean sheet for the ninth straight time this season. The draw leaves Nigd Bank 3rd with 33 points, their opponents of today are 5th with inferior goal difference.

It was far tougher than expected, but Mekelakeya squeezed past Hadiya Hossana 2-1 to keep pushing for Premier League safety. Behailu Girma broke the deadlock minutes after the half hour mark through a brilliant finish to hand the Army side the lead. Hayder Sherefa restored parity in the second half, nonetheless Tewodros Bekele scored an audacious free kick to put Mekelakeya in front again 11 minutes from time. The win leaves Mekelakeya 8th. Meanwhile, the relegated Hadiya Hossana are rock bottom with only 7 points.
