Ethiopian flag bearers Kidus Giorgis has kicked off their Total CAF Champions League campaign with a vital away win against Seychellois champions Cote D’Or 2-0 at Stade Amitie in Praslin.
Salahdin Said struck in each half to hand the Horsemen an away victory.
Salahdin puts Kidus Giorgis ahead in the 40th minute before he completed his brace at the hour mark. The win left Giorgis relatively in a comfort zone as they will play the return leg in Hawassa. Few expected the homers to pull off an upset against the Addis Ababa outfit.
The return leg is set for next week in Hawassa International Stadium. The winner takes on the winners of Congo Republic side AC Leopards de Dolisie and Cameroon outfit UMS de Loum. CAF has expanded the Champions League group stages to 16 teams. The winners of the first round cruise to the group stages while losers demoted to the CAF Confederations Cup.
