Premier League: First Half of Season Elapsed on Sunday

The 2016/17 Ethiopian Premier League the first half of season ended after 6 week 15 duels being played across the country. Dedebit, Ethio-Electric, Fasil Ketema and Jimma Aba Bunna recorded a decisive wins. Two ties elapsed on a barren draw.

Jimma Aba Bunna trounced Dire Dawa Ketema in Jimma Stadium to hand Coach Gebremedhin Haile his maiden league win since taking over the helm of the club. Ame Mohammed draw first blood in the first interval before Biyadeglegn Elias doubled the lead from the spot. Ugandan midfielder Krizisto Ntambi extended the lead to three with his first league goal since joining the club.

Fasil Ketema beat Adama Ketema with a solitary goal from left back Amesalu Tilahun. Amesalu struck the lone goal of the encounter in the 22nd minute. Adama Ketema missed out on a chance to close the gap with table topper Kidus Giorgis.

Dedebit moved into second place after crashing Wolaitta Dicha 3-0 in Abebe Bikila Memorial Stadium.  Goals from Abel Yalew, Getaneh Kebede and Shemkit Gugesa gave the Blues a deserved win over the Sodo outfit as they tightened their grip on the title.

Ethio-Electric secured their second win of the season as they edged past Hawassa Ketema in Addis Ababa. Fitsum GebreMariam masterminded Hawassa’s fall with a first half brace.

Elsewhere, the games between ArbaMinch Ketema and Ethiopia Bunna ended in a barren draw. Mekelakeya and Sidama Bunna share spoils in the other tie.

Kidus Giorgis tops the league with 29 points, Dedebit are second with 27 points. Adama Ketema, Sidama Bunna, Ethiopia Bunna and Fasil Ketema are complete the top 6. Addis Ababa Ketema, Hawassa Ketema and Ethiopia Nigd Bank are dangling in the drop zone. Two remaining week 2 premier league fixtures will be played on Thursday as Ethiopia Nigd Bank entertains Hawassa Ketema in relegation dogfight. Fasil Ketema hosts Wolaitta Dicha in Gondar in the other game.

Getaneh Kebede of Dedebit tops the goal scoring chart with 11 goals. Kidus Giorgis duo Adane Girma and Salahdin Said and Ethio-Electric’s Fitsum GebreMariam are second after bagging 7 goals.
