Ethiopia Continues to Drop in FIFA World Ranking

Ethiopia dropped five places to the 151th position in the latest FIFA Coca Cola World Ranking released Thursday, 7th of June.

In the last edition of the FIFA Ranking Ethiopia were 146th likewise shared positions with Burundi. The Waliyas have not been playing in friendly games since December last year. The last competitive match the national side played was during the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup group stages. Ethiopia amassed 166 points but forced to be below the 150th mark.

Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) former president Juneidi Basha had vowed to hire a new trainer for the national team but his tenure as the country’s football boss elapsed last Sunday when he lost the presidential election to new incumbent Esayas Jira. Juneidi’s words about hiring a new coach was no to avail. The newly elected president Esayas on his first Executive Committee meeting handed the task for former Ethiopia coach Sewnet Bishaw to come up with a new plan and study for appointing a permanent coach.

Ethiopia will host Sierra Leone in the 2019 Total African Cup of Nations qualifier in August. Germany dominates the World Ranking while Tunisia are the top ranked African nation.
