Ethiopian Premier Week 27 Recap

The Ethiopian Premier League round 27 games were played across the country over the weekends as Woldia SC lost their relegation battle. The race for the title is getting tighter as the season draws to its end. Meanwhile, the race for survival at the other end of the table is going at full scale. 

Woldia SC 0-2 Jimma Aba Jifar
Jimma Aba Jifar swept Woldia aside 2-0 in Addis Ababa to maintain their lead at the summit. Nigerian import Okikiola Afolabi opened the scoring in the first interval from the spot before Ghanaian midfielder Aaron Amoha sealed the win for the Western Ethiopian outfit.


Fasil Ketema 2-1 Sidama Bunna
The Emperors rallied from behind to beat Sidama Bunna 2-1 in Gondar. Wendmeneh Aynalem puts the Yirgalem based side in front 15 minutes following the onset but Ramkel Lok leveled matters in the 30th minutes with a successfully taken spot kick. Ephrem Alemu completed the comeback for Fasil, who were winless in their previous six league ties.


Dire Dawa Ketema 0-0 Ethio-Electric
Dire Dawa Ketema were held to a barren draw by Ethio-Electric in a relegation dogfight. The Easterners persisted on their fine home form but were unable to produce moment of magic to defeat Electric. The draw demoted Woldia SC to the Higher League.


Dedebit 0-3 Kidus Giorgis
Dedebit continues on their bad form as they fall to title challengers Kidus Giorgis. The Horsemen trounced the Blues 3-0 in Addis Ababa. Goals from Salahdin Bargicho, Mulualem Mesfin and Menetesenote Adane handed Kidus Giorgis a massive win over Dedebit.


Mekele Ketema 1-0 Mekelakeya

Mekele Ketema pip Mekelakeya as they kept closely following the table toppers. Amanuel GebreMikael struck the solitary goal in the 71st minute. The Army side players protested the goal as Amanuel fouled a Mekelakeya player before slotting home inside the area.


Adama Ketema 1-1 ArbaMinch Ketema
Adama Ketema’s title hope dealt a huge blow after drawing with ArbaMinch Ketema at home. Bulcha Shura gave the homers the lead in the 23rd minutes but his strike was cancelled out by Endale Kebede. The Crocodiles are fighting for league safety.

The game between Hawassa Ketema vs. Ethiopia Bunna and Wolaitta Dicha vs. Wolwalo Adigrat University have been postponed to a later date due to security concerns in Hawassa and Boditi.
