EthPL Review | Game Week Three

The 3rd week Ethiopian premier league matches were held in the weekends where Wolwalo A/U upheld their flawless start of the campaign meanwhile Wolkite Ketema recorded their first-ever triumph in top-flight Football as Sidama Bunna and Hawassa Ketema collected all three points.

Newly promoted Wolkite Ketema upset last year runners up Fasil Kenema at the Abiyo Arsamo memorial Stadium in Hossana, in there last match before they move to their renovated ground by next game week. Togolese forward Arafat Djako was the difference between the two sides in what was a one-sided affair as Fasil dominated the whole 90 minutes but the resilient Wolkite Ketema defensive organization finally paid off. Wolkite has now collected 4 points from the possible nine and are currently 10th in the table.

Diredawa Ketema returned to winning ways after their shocking start of the season with two loses into making things worse as they were humiliated 5-0 last week at the hands of Fasil Kenema. However, this week Dire rejuvenated with the return of their head coach Simeon Abay reunited with his side after a two matches touchline ban collected a much needed three points courtesy to their Ghanaian forward Richmond Adongo, with this win they temporarily moved out of the drop zone.

Wolwalo maintained their 100% winning start of the campaign with a convincing 3-0 win against Sehul Shire, Junias “Lolo” Nanjibu scored a brace while Genanw Regassa scored the other one for Wolwalo currently at the summit of the table with 9 points.

Hawassa Ketema beat Bahirdar ketema 1-0 at the Hawassa Stadium thanks to a second half strike from the substitute Biruk Beyene. Hawassa has collected 7 points and is residing the 2nd place two points adrift of Wolwalo.

Fixtures concerning Sebeta and Adama as well as Wolaita Dicha and Kidus Giorgis ended in a stalemate.

On Sunday Ethiopia Bunna came from behind to rescue a draw against reigning premier league Champions Mekelle 70 Enderta at the Tigray international stadium. Ashenafi Haftu gave the home side an early led but Endale Debalke’s poised finish was enough to guarantee the two sides a solitary point. On the same day strikes from Addis Gidey and Yigezu Bogale handed Sidama Bunna a second successive win of the campaign at the expense of Jimma Aba Jiffar.
