PL 23/24 | Abel Yalew shows signs of getting back to his best

Abel Yalew’s heroics meant Kidus Giorgis maintain their wining start while Hadiya Hossana earn their first point under Yohannes Sahle’s reign in the second day action of game week three.

In the early kickoff between two sides yet to win this season saw Wolkite Ketema and Hadiya Hossana playing out a frustrating goalless draw.

Hadiya made three changes coming into the game with Henok Arficho , Girma Bekele and Semere Haftaye favoured inplace of Zekarias Fikre, Temsgen Birhanu and Dawa Hottesa while Wolkite made a single change with Temsgen Bejirond coming in place of the injured Abubeker Sani.

In a match were chances were far and few Wolkite enjoyed much of the ball while Hadiya opted for quick transitions, Semere Haftaye’s injury and Wolkite’s Abraham Haile’s sporting behaviour was the major talking point of the frustrating match.

The draw meant Hadiya Hossana collect their first point of the campaign while it meant back to back draws for Wolkite Ketema.

In the late kickoff new comers Shashemene Ketema were on the verge of collecting their first ever point in the top flight but Abel Yalew’s 97 minute penality kick goal left them empty handed as holders maintain their emphatic start to the campaign.

Kidus Giorgis named an unchanged starting 11 for todays clash while Shashemene Ketema made a single change as the experianced former Wolaita Dicha skipper Yared Dawit come inplace of Chalachew Menberu.

Shashemene Ketema took the lead early as newly introduced Yared Dawit opened the scoring for his new side, but Abel Yalew restorec parity in the 33rd minute for Kidus Giorgis.

After the restart last season’s Ugandan premier league top scorer Allan Kayiwa who joined new comers Shashemene Ketema from Express opened his scoring account in the 64th minute to once again give his side the lead but second half substitute Bereket Wolde levelled matters for Kidus Giorgis in the 78th minute.

Shashemene who were very resolute in their defensive play were playing ultra defensive to salvage a point but their resilience lapsed at last.

As the final whitsel was approaching Kidus Giorgis were awarded a spot kick in the 97th minute which he converted with ease to seal the victory very late for holders.

The brace meant Abel Yalew has now scored more goals(four) goals in three games than he did in the entirety of last season(three), Kidus Giorgis remain top of the league with nine points from three matches.
