Debub Police Extends Contract of Coach Girma Tadesse 

After finishing top of their Group in the Ethiopian Second Division and winning the trophy following a 1-0 triumph over Bahir Dar Ketema, Debub Police have extended the contract of their coach. Girma Tadesse will be tasked with keeping the South based club in the top flight.  

Debub Police are yet to be active in the transfer market but Club President Colonel Daniel Gezahegn said that they will unveil new signings soon. Coach Girma said he plans to build a strong squad with small transfer budget.

Ethiopia Bunna Signed Alhassen Kalusha and Ismael Watanga

Ethiopia Bunna have secured the services of Ghanaian international Alhassen Kalusha. The club unveiled their new signing on Monday, a day after his birthday. The attacking midfielder is expected to hit the ground running under Didier Gomes after impressing at Ethio Electric. Kalusha had a year left on his contract but after the relegation of the club, it comes as no surprise that he chose to join Bunna. He notched 13 goals in his debut Ethiopian Premier League season and was the only bright spark in a rather underwhelming Ethio Electric side.

Ismael Watanga has put pen to paper to make his move to Ethiopia Bunna official after arriving at Addis Ababa on Tuesday. The move will make Watanga the fourth Ugandan keeper to play in the Ethiopian Premier League after Danis Oniango, Robert Odongkara and Hannington Kalyesubula.

Women’s Football- Transfer News

Adama Ketema has been making transfers in order to improve its squad ahead of the new Ethiopian Women’s Premier League season. The club signed three players from Dedebit this week. Attacking Midfielder Senayit Bogale, who has been nominated for the EBC sport award, has joined on a two-year contract. Veteran defender Woineshet Tsegaye and Meskerem Kanko have also joined their former teammate at Adama.

New Appointments at Addis Ababa Ketema

Former Dire Dawa Ketema and Ethiopian Women’s national team coach Meseret Mani has been appointed as the new trainer at Addis Ababa Ketema Women’s team. On the other side the men’s team is close to appointing Mekonen Gebreyohannes as the new coach while Daniel Gebremariam is the new technical director. Coach Mekonen has previously helped Dashen Beer, Ethiopia Water Works FC, and Jimma Aba Jifar to Premier League promotion.

Main Events in Ethiopian Football this month

– The second edition of EBC sports awards for best footballers and athletes will take place on September 16.

– The Ethiopian Football Federation will organize an award program for star players and coaches. The Federation is also expected to hold a meeting with Premier League clubs. The schedule for the new season will be made official during the meeting.

– The Ethiopian Cup is expected to resume this month with the last knock out stages being played.
