Loza Abera is set to sign for Birkirkara FC

Ethiopian forward Loza Abera is expected to be heading for Malta today penning a two-year deal with Birkirkara FC.

Loza Abera who previously had trial stints in Sweden and Turkey is expected to sign her contract with Birkirkara FC for two years without a trial. Last season Loza was playing for the Ethiopian Women’s Premier league first division champions Adama Kenema, Loza scored 17 goals as Adama Kenema secured their maiden Ethiopian women’s Premier League first division crown.

Loza was on a training camp with the Ethiopian women’s National Team preparing to tackle its Cameroon counterpart in Tokyo 2022 Olympics qualifier.

Meanwhile, the record eight-time Maltese women’s first division champions who won the domestic double for the past 5 years running, were recently knocked out of UEFA Women’s Champions League qualification stage after they suffered a 7-2 demolition at the hands of Wexford Youths FC of Ireland.

Wolaita Dicha targeting promising Youngsters 

Wolaita Dicha who were promoted to Ethiopia’s top tier in 2014/15 under the leadership of Mesay Teferi was once applauded for their approach of building a competitive team with relatively limited resources. But in the past two seasons, the club was seen splashing the cash to bring experienced players and also foreigners to the squad but those strange moves backfired as the team was seen struggling to compete and was mostly seen in the drop zone evading relegation on the last couple of weeks.

However recently the club is believed to be on their way back to where they began, in a recent meeting organized at Beshoftu to enforce the salary cap the club’s president Asefa Hassiso was quoted “We here in Woliata Dicha have decided to return to our previous approach, because the approach we were following for the past two seasons was a total failure”

Wolaita Dicha has yesterday confirmed that they completed the acquisition of Solomon Wodesa and Negash Tadesse for two years from Ethiopia Medhin and Hawassa Ketema respectively.

Newly-appointed head coach Gebrekirstos Birara is currently in Adama attending the Ethiopian U-20 Premier league national tournament and is expected to recruit several players from the tournament.

Jimma Aba Jiffar appoint a new head coach

Jimma Aba Jiffar has finally landed Paulos Getachew as their new head coach after they parted ways with Zemariam Woldegiorgis following their early exit in the continental championship last campaign.

Paulos who also terminated his contract with Bahir Dar Ketema this summer was bound to different clubs but finally decided to join the west Ethiopian side on a one year deal.

The 2017/18 Ethiopian premier league champions have been struggling on and off the field last season most notably they were seen several times making the headlines for wages not paid on time. In this regard, Paulos has a huge task of returning the club to its glory days.

Higher League clubs are appointing new Trainers for the coming season

Betselot Leulseged who had a very successful year with Ethiopia Medin is the new Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECWC) head coach, his assistant the vastly experienced Yared Tolera will be leading Ethiopia Medhin after Beselote’s departure.

Ethiopia Medin new trainer Yared Tolera will have a huge mountain to climb as last year’s breakthrough performers from their impressive side that dramatically lost premier league promotion failing one point short from group champions Wolkite Ketema are being recruited by Ethiopian premier league sides. To this effect, after their eye-catching performance, last season till date six of their star players have switched colors.

Axum Ketema also announced the appointment of Daniel Tsehaye as their new trainer after they parted ways with Getachew Dawit. Daniel was in charge of top tier sides Sehul Shire and Dedebit last season.

Gelan Ketema also extended the contract of Dawit Tadesse for another year at the club.
