Ethiopian Cup: St. George and Mekelakeya Will Meet in The Final

Mekelakeya Progressed to the Ethiopian Cup Final after beating Ethiopia Bunna 1-0. Talisman Menyelu Wondemu got the only goal of the match from the spot. Ghanian midfielder Alhassen Kalusha made his debut for Ethiopia Bunna in this game.

Following Jimma Aba Jifar’s failure to show up for the second semi-final match of the day, St. George have booked their place in Saturday’s final winning via the forfeit rule.

Jimma Aba Jifar stated on Monday that they won’t take part in the Cup because the competition, which should’ve ended last season, was not part of their plan for the new season. The Federation wrote a letter to the club urging them to play the match but Jimma Aba Jifar persisted with their decision to forfeit the game.

Mekelakeya and St. George are two of the most successful clubs in the history of the competition. The sides will battle to not only start their season with a trophy but to also earn the right to represent Ethiopia in the CAF Confederations Cup qualifiers.
